A wealth of experience, gained over years in the converting industry, has made TRASCO a cutting-edge manufacturer in the production of expanding shafts, chucks, spreaders, and rollers.

  • Spreader Rollers

Spreader rollers (metal or rubber) are used to eliminate creases or wrinkles. The spreading eect of the roller is due to three factors:

    • The distance between the spreader roller (B) and the subsequent roller (C).
    • The arc generated by the roller on the material.
    • The height of the spreader roller.

To obtain the maximum spreading eect the height must be increased and the distance between the spreader roller and subsequent roller decreased, and vice versa to decrease the eect. The “Y” distance must not exceed 2.3 times the diameter of the spreader roller, and the “X” distance generally 4.6 times the diameter of the spreader roller. The recommended winding angle is between 15° and 30°.

  • Rollers

There are two categories of rollers: smooth and spreader rollers. The first category ensures the transit of material within the system, whereas the second category ensures the removal of any wrinkle or gathering during transit. TRASCO designs and produces both types of rollerin aluminium or steel, on the basis of customer requirements.

Diameters available: min. of 60 mm up to a max. of 200 mm. Lengths available: up to a max. of 6000 mm. Journals are made according to customer specifications.

TRASCO also has a wide range of aluminium solutions for rollers with alveolar profiles, used where lightweight characteristics and good flexural strength are required. The following diameters are available for this type of solution: 60 mm, 81 mm, 100 mm, 120 mm, 140 mm, 160 mm and 200 mm. Any type of surface treatment or coating is available.

  • Expanding Chucks

Expanding chucks are used on machines with winding/unwinding systems that do not permit the use of expanding shafts (i.e. shaftless machines). TRASCO meets the market requirements for these specic applications by providing pneumatic, mechanical or pneumo-mechanical expanding chucks. TRASCO has a wide range of standard products and can create bespoke solutions on the basis of customer requirements.

  • Safety Chucks

TRASCO designs and produces a wide range of pneumatic and mechanical rotating safety chucks, required to support expanding shafts and reels during winding/unwinding operations. The range of safety chucks includes: Tilting safety chucks, recommended for low shaft rotation speeds; Sliding safety chucks, recommended for high speeds.

All TRASCO chucks can be configured with feet or flange connection systems. They can also be set up for connection to dierent types of braking systems.

Thanks to the experience gained in the industry, TRASCO can provide a vast range of solutions to meet any type of customer requirements. Furthermore, the company complies with the most stringent safety standards, by fitting automatic mechanical closures and safety guards to each chuck.

  • Expanding Shafts

Expanding shafts are used to unwind and rewind rolls and reels of any material. TRASCO’s technical team can design expanding shafts in dierent materials according to customer requirements, such as aluminium, high-capacity steel, carbon fiber, and ultra-light solutions. Journals can be made in dierent types of steel and undergo any type of surface treatment. TRASCO can provide customers with a range of solutions.

  • Expanding Shafts in Carbon Fiber

Expanding shafts in carbon fiber provide a practical solution in applications where aluminium shafts cannot be used, for reasons of weight and reel rotation speed. Solutions in steel are normally used in such cases, but they are extremely heavy. An expanding shaft in carbon fiber is the only way to radically solve the problem. TRASCO shafts in carbon fiber are made using pultrusion techniques, and are the only type in the world involving the expansion of continuous strips.

    • Thanks to the pultrusion technique, TRASCO obtains carbon fiber bars in the desired format, prepared for assembling pneumatics. As a result, TRASCO eliminates the need for any type of machining from the production process, keeping the fibers intact such that product performance is not compromised, and reducing costs and timescales.
    • Expansion with continuous strips helps to reduce the weight of the expanding shaft. A central chamber, which is typical of expansion with keys and is very heavy, is not used. Expansion with continuous strips makes maintenance operations for the expanding shaft extremely quick and easy.

TRASCO has a wide range of carbon fiber profiles produced using the pultrusion technique. Thanks to special equipment, all profiles have excellent linearity characteristics, with an error margin of approximately 1 mm for every 6 m in length. TRASCO profiles are made of high-strength fibers (920 GPa). The number of fibers used and their arrangement within the pultrusion process give the profiles excellent flexural strength and very high critical rotational speed.
